MINNEAPOLIS – Building on a successful first round of funding which distributed $200,000 to 80 grantees, Solidarity MN is proud to announce a new round of funding for organizations, leaders, and projects strengthening immigrant and refugee communities across Minnesota.
There is a much urgency for this support. This week’s announcement of a renewed travel ban and the elimination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program earlier this month, coupled with other policy changes and anti-immigrant/refugee rhetoric has brought a heightened level of anxiety to these members of our community. Speaking and acting with a unified philanthropic voice, Solidarity MN will invest in the strength and resiliency of immigrants and refugees across the state.
Solidarity MN seeks avenues to advocate for the prosperity, safety, and inclusion of our immigrant and refugee neighbors, friends, and family. To help ensure that our core objectives are rooted in the wisdom and voice of communities most impacted, our work is centered on community engagement. We aspire to meet the urgency in community with a timely, efficient, and accessible process.
We are offering two tiers of investment and invite applications of up to $25,000, or up to $75,000. Competitive applications for grants of up to $75,000 will showcase how the proposed work is larger in scale, statewide, or collaborative.
Proposals will be accepted until October 10, 2017.

First Round Funding
A first round of funding totaling $200,000 provided 80 grants for individuals, community groups, and nonprofits who are serving Minnesota’s refugee and immigrant communities. These efforts included:
- Somali American Community Radio will use the grant to help communicate to East African immigrant and refugee audiences important information on health, education and immigration issues.
- Navigate MN will build its rapid response, family protection/deportation resources, civic engagement, leadership development, and storytelling capabilities.
- Sewa-Aifw (Asian Indian Family Wellness) will promote their mental health services for immigrants and refugees with funds provided by a Solidarity MN microgrant.
- A Solidarity MN grant provided to Volunteer Lawyers Network, Ltd. will fund expanded legal services to families affected by family separation due to changing immigration policies.
