First 48 hours: The Execution of 21-year-old Somali Girl to air on Thursday

Episode 5 of Season 16 of the popular show First 48 hours will be aired on Thursday, December 29, 2016. Episode 5 which is titled “Bad Romance; Out of Control”, is about the investigation into the execution of 21-year-old Ayan Abdulahi, who had been dating Ahmed Abdi for about three months.

Ayan was murdered on Sunday, April 12, 2015. Ahmed Abdi was arrested in Kansas City, charged with murdering his girlfriend and he’s in a prison now. This episode of the show follows homicide investigators and the Minneapolis police who uncovered a secret relationship that have turned deadly.

A jury convicted Ahmed Abdi of murder Wednesday, July 22, 2016  for fatally shooting his girlfriend in the head last year.
Ahmed Abdi, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, was convicted of second degree murder for fatally shooting his girlfriend, 21-year-old Ayan Abdulahi, on April 12, 2015. He fled to Kansas City, Mo., where he later was arrested.

The First 48 is an American documentary television series on A&E. Filmed in various cities in the United States, the series offers an insider’s look at the real-life world of homicide investigators. While the series often follows the investigations to their end, it usually focuses on their first 48 hours, hence the title. Each episode picks one or more homicides in different cities, covering each alternately, showing how detectives use forensic evidence, witness interviews and other advanced detective skills to identify suspects. While most cases are solved within the first 48 hours, some go on days, weeks, months, or even years after the first 48.
