Dream Big, a 501C3 Boston based non-profit organization donated uniforms, basketballs and sports attire to the Somalia Women’s National Basketball Team on Saturday, September 23, 2017.
Linda Driscoll who is the Founder, President & CEO of Dream Big wrote on her Facebook Page, “Dream Big! is so proud to donate uniforms, basketballs and sports attire for the Somalia Women’s National Basketball Team so they are able to train and compete in upcoming basketball tournaments in Africa”.
Former Boston Latin basketball player and current Clark University team member Jamad Fiin accepted the donation as a member of the Somalia National Team.
Linda Driscoll thanked and appreciated all the people that made these donations possible. She also thanked Suad, who is directing the Somalia Women’s National Basketball Team to compete in upcoming basketball tournaments in Africa.
Dream Big!’s mission is to help girls from low-income situations achieve their dreams by providing them with the basic items and fees necessary to enable them to participate in sports and physical activities that contribute to their health, education and overall well-being.
Donations like this will help the rebirth of Somali women’s basketball after 26 years of civil war. Somali community members in American and other diaspora counties led by former athletes are supporting, inspiring and organizing new generation of players to participate international tournaments in hopes of representing Somalia, qualifying for the 2018 Women’s Basketball World Cup and the 2020 Olympics.
