Minneapolis — Today, the Minneapolis Canvassing Board, certified the results of Novermber 7, 2017 city elections.
The certification is the last step in confirming the city candidates who won on the November 7 General Election ballot.
The Minneapolis Canvassing board declared official winners in each race on the ballot. The certified winners include council member Abdi Warsame, who won his election on November 7, 2017.
Mohamud Noor who narrowly lost his bid for the Sixth Ward seat in the Minneapolis City Council election last week filed a request Monday for a recount with the city clerk’s office. Mohamud Noor received 47 percent of the vote and lost to incumbent Abdi Warsame, who finished with 50 percent in a highly contentious race.
On Monday Mohamud Noor said, “I am seeking a manual recount for all ballots cast in all the precincts in Ward 6, including precincts, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4, 6-5, 6-7, 6-8, and 6-9,” Noor wrote in his request. “I am also seeking to review all voted ballots that were not counted in the official canvass, including unopened rejected vote-by-mail (“VBM”), in person absentee voting, undervotes or partially defective, totally defective, or spoiled ballots and any other materials related to uncounted or rejected ballots.”
The Minneapolis Canvassing board declaring Abdi Warsame and officially certifying him the winner will put an end to the ward 6 race.
Council member Abdi Warsame, his campaign team and supporters are scheduled to celebrate his reelection and winning this highly contested race on Sunday, November 19, 2017.
